About Makira

I am a mother of three wonderful young teens and we live with a houseful of cats with a dog sidekick. I enjoy crafts of all kinds and have a rather large obsession with anything Disney. I host two craft challenges: Colorful Options Challenge and Park Hopping My Happy Place Challenge.

Shine Like the Stars

Happy Sunday Crafting, everyone!

I am here with a pastel-inspired card today.

This card was fairly simple to make. Start with some watercolor paper and ink stamp with a stencil of your choice. Use coordinating papers for the panel to the right and background. Emboss a simple sentiment using some of the coordinating paper as a border. Stitch the panels to the background and place them on a card base of your choice.

If you want to create this card, here is what I used:

  • Azteca watercolor paper, Strathmore Bristol Smooth Card Stock, Whimsy Stamps 6×6 paper pack (sadly retired)
  • Distress Oxide Ink: Spun Sugar, Tumbled Glass, Dried Marigold
  • Hero Arts Stencil: Scrollwork Stencil
  • Overdyed sewing thread & sewing machine
  • Stampers Anonymous Tiny Text, CMS 394
  • Lavender embossing powder from the stash, unnamed (probably bought 10+ years ago at Hobby Lobby)

Have a great week!

Boo-ya, Orange

Hello, everyone! Welcome back to another exciting month of challenges at Park Hopping My Happy Place and the Colorful Options Challenge! 🎨🌈 This month, we’re all about Halloween and orange.

I decided to use the color orange and go a little creepy cute.

If you’re looking to recreate this card & envelope, here’s what you’ll need:

  • Yupo paper, orange & brown cardstock from the stash, clear orange file folder from Office Depot
  • Alcohol inks
  • Tim Holtz Stampersanonymous: Poisonous CMS171, Boo Crazy CMS495
  • Distress Oxide Archival Ink in Ground Expresso

Begin by preparing your Yupo paper and alcohol inks; I opted for a vibrant mix of yellows, oranges, and a touch of brown to create a warm background. Once the background was dry, I added texture using the Poisonous stamp and Ground Espresso ink. For a playful touch, I stamped the Boo Crazy image onto a clear orange file folder using the same Ground Espresso ink. After fussy cutting my ghost, I secured him in place with Distress Collage Medium. Finally, stamp a sentiment of your choice and assemble your creation for a fun and festive project!

Makira’s Red Cat

Happy Sunday, crafters!

I have a sequel to last week’s copic creation.

Yes, I am CASEing another artist. This time it is Jim Tweedy’s Charlie, the Red Cat. He was most popular in the late 1990s, early 2000s.

I did used essentially the same items as last week, stamped a single TH Crazy Cat image and did a bunch of copic coloring. Hope you enjoy!

Makira’s Blue Dog

Happy Sunday evening, crafters!

I have a Rodrigue-inspired blue dog card today.

This card was stamped with Tim Holtz’s Crazy dog stamp and then spent a good time coloring with Copics. Below is the inspiration art I was CASEing.

Hey everyone! Welcome back to another exciting challenge at Park Hopping My Happy Place!

We were thrilled with all the fantastic entries for our August challenge and can’t wait to see your creativity for this month. As always, our challenge is open to any theme park-inspired creation.

This month’s inspiration photo features Epcot’s Food & Wine Festival. With September bringing the promise of cooler weather, a relaxing stroll with a cool drink sounds perfect. Let your imagination run wild and show us your magical creations!

My color palette is directly inspired by this month’s photo of Epcot’s Food & Wine Festival’s brochure. My theme comes from the cat’s of Disneyland & balloons (you can find these at every theme park). Originally I was going to place the milk bottle with the cat, but the balloon just looked better.
