Hello Saturday!

Happy Saturday, everyone! Here’s my creation inspired by the parameters on Craft Roulette last night: white background, light, diagonal cut, and off to the side. The only non-obvious is the “light,” which you can find if you look carefully; light bulbs are stamped as part of the grungy background.

Supplies used:

  • Paper: Strathmore Printmaking 280g, pink cardstock from the stash
  • Dies: Tim Holtz Wildflower Stems #1, Tim Holtz Friendship Words Script; Waffle flower nesting slimline
  • Distress Spray Stain: Kitsch Flamingo
  • Distress Oxide Spray: Picked Raspberry
  • Distress Mica Stain: Winterberry
  • Ink: Versafine Onyx Black Ink
  • Stampers Anonymous: CMS 101 Adverts, CMS 402 Grunged

Directions:

Cut the white cardstock down to a mini-slim line dimension. Using the inks and some plastic, smoosh ink onto the background. Allow drying time. Stamp the background with images from Adverts and Grunged. From the white cardstock, cut a flower from Stems and a sentiment block with the second smallest slimline die. Cut the hello from pink card stock. Glue your layers and mount on fun foam. Glue to a card base, and you’re done! WOW! Fast and easy!!! Enjoy!

Vintage Typing 50’s style

Happy Friday, everyone! This card was inspired by a 1950s typewriter I found online earlier this week. I saw this picture and thought it would make such a cute card. My first stop was to Canva to create a color palette, just a little digital playing.

Supplies used:

  • Pink, Green, and Ivory paper from the stash. Burgundy(purplish) from Tim Holtz Cardstock, White copy paper
  • Dies: Tim Holtz Vintage Typewriter Bigz Die, Tim Holtz Thinlits: Celebration Words Script, Tim Holtz Thinlits: Garden Greens, Random heart from my stash (unknown 🙄)
  • Distress Oxide Ink: Antique Linen, Aged Mahogany, Tattered Rose, Rustic Wilderness
  • Stampers Anonymous: CMS 453 Exquisite, CMS 338 Stamp Collector, CMS 323 Holiday Postmarks
  • 1920s Underwood Typewriter

Directions:

Cut the ivory cardstock down to 4.25″x5.5″. Stamp the Exquisite flowers using Antique Linen. Choose a stamp from Stamp Collector and the stamp cancellation stamp from Holiday Postmarks and stamp in the upper right-hand corner with Aged Mahogany. Ink the edges with Tattered Rose. Cut your typewriter out of pink cardstock and ink with Tattered Rose. Cut your leaves out of the green cardstock and add dimension with Rustic Wilderness (hard to see in my photo). Cut your sentiment and heart from Tim Holt’s cardstock. Type a sentiment on the typewriter and shorten the paper to fit the typewriter; distress the edges with Antique Linen.

Have a great weekend! Indulge in rest, relaxation, and making.

Happy New Year 2023

Happy New Year, Everyone! Why not start out the New Year with something a little spooky? This card is a merger of Tim Holtz and Lavina stamps. The moon was added to the grey cardstock using pan pastels in white and black. After that, the background was stamped using a grey Versafine Clair, Morning Mist. The witch and cauldron were stamped with Versafine Onyx Black ink and embossed with Emerald Creek’s Aroma Black Cherry embossing powder. Then some “bubbles” were added with Versamark ink and Perfect Pearls in Poppy. A simple black border was added before mounting to grey cardstock. Enjoy!

Colorful Options January 2023

Hi Everyone…welcome to another month on the Colorful Options Blog. Thank you for joining us for last month’s challenge, and we hope you can join us this month, too, because it’s time for a new challenge.

And the theme for this month is……

BLACK

I tried something completely different this month, an 8×10 acrylic/mixed media graffiti art. I follow the French artist Segio Aranda Art on Youtube, and he has a tutorial on graffiti art. It looked like fun. So, why not? Marilyn, above is the result. The general technique is simple: apply a layer of acrylic paint, dry, and add more layers until you are happy.

Supplies used:

  • Acrylic paper by Strathmore
  • Acrylic paints: Golden(Interface Golden), Folk Art Titanium White
  • Distress Oxide paints: Crackling Campfire, Picked Raspberry, Dried Marigold, Squeezed Lemonade, Antique Linen, Salvaged Patina, Speckled Egg, Uncharted Mariner, Stormy Sky, Villanous Potion, Picket Fence (these provide my Rainbow portion for my DT piece)
  • Distress Oxide Ink Refill in Picket Fence
  • White Gesso
  • Clear Rock Candy Glitter
  • Distress Collage Medium, transparent
  • Stencil
  • Black Spray paint

Directions:

Apply white Gesso to cover your paper or canvas; while still wet, add glitter randomly for texture and apply a second coat of Gesso. Allow it to dry. Cover the canvas with your background color; mine was Salvaged Patina. Once dry, tape two bands toward the center of the canvas. Add small dollops of paint (Picked Raspberry and Villanous Potion) and spread over the canvas with a credit card.

Tape off two more blocks and add paint as previously (Uncharted Mariner). Allow all paint to dry. Tape off the center and apply a layer of Stormy Sky and Picket fence using a brayer (no picture, so sorry). Tape off the bottom bands and apply a mixture of Crackling Campfire, Dried Marigold, and Antique Linen using the brayer. Remove the tape and sponge a combination of Antique Linen and Dried Marigold to blend the layers. At this point, you will still see distinct bands.

Tape off one half of the canvas and apply a mixture of Golden, Squeezed Lemonade, and Titanium white using the brayer. Remove the tape and add a mix of Stormy Sky, Titanium White, and Speckled Egg to the other half. Blend the two until happy. This will give you a more white-washed appearance. While wet, grab a metal spatula and scratch your canvas randomly and frequently.

Allow this to dry. Apply ink to the surface as the first layer of whitewash. I wasn’t happy with the result of the ink. So, I added more whitewash, using Picket Fence thinned with water and a sponge until I achieved the desired result. Allow dry time. Tape a stencil of your liking to the canvas and head outside. Apply the spray paint and remove the stencil. Apply Clear Rock Candy to the necklace using a collage medium. After all, Marilyn needs to sparkle.

I have some close-ups below so you may see the details better.

Happy Holiday Gift Card

Happy Friday before Christmas, everyone! I’m just hopping on to spread some Christmas Cheer. I created a gift card holder with a matching envelope and tag. Perhaps it’s a bit much. But it is certainly a more fun way to give a gift card.

If I don’t make it back on…. Merry Christmas!

Colorful Options December 2022

Hi Everyone…welcome to another month on the Colorful Options Blog. Thank you for joining us for last month’s challenge, and we hope you can join us this month, too, because it’s time for a new challenge.

And the theme for this month is……

WINTER WHITE

Fair warning… this is a LONG post! 😁😁

I created a mixed-media gift card holder. This was inspired by Natifa on Tim Holtz’s 2022 Stampersanonymous Christmas release.

Supplies used:

  • Papers: Tim Holtz Idea-ology CHRISTMAS Backdrops th94277; Nina solar white card stock 110lb; Strathmore Acrylic cardstock, Plaid paper from stash
  • Inks: Distress Oxide (Picket Fence, Speckled Egg, Antique Linen); Archival ink in Hickory Smoke; Versamark Embossing Ink
  • Sizzix dies – Tim Holtz: Thin Ice, Vintage Labels, Wreath & Snowflake, Collector
  • Stampersannonymous sets: Department Store CMS458, Snarky Cat Christmas CMS416, Stamptember 2022, Darling Christmas CMS457, Bold Tidings CMS440, Tiny Text Christmas CMS424
  • Embellishments: Nuvo drops in White; Ranger hologram embossing powder; Ranger white embossing powder; white eyelet, white pony tail holder, miniclip
  • Mediums: Distress Collage Medium, Grit Paste in Snowfall
  • Acrylic Paint: Distress Paint (Picket Fence, Speckled Egg, Antique linen); Floetrol; DecoArt in Pearl White; Golden in Interface Gold; White Gesso
  • Stencils: Elements Christmas, Elements Mechanical, THMM145
  • Impresslit: 3D Snowflake

Directions:

Cut your acrylic cardstock down to 6″x4.5″. Mix your paints for paint pouring. I used white as my background, poured strips of Antique Linen, Interface Gold, and Speckled Egg, and used pearl white for swiping. Dry time in Texas was 24 hours. While you have the paints out, paint a Miniclip white. Cut your snowflakes, trees’ snow, hill, and the middle panel from the poured paint cardstock. Cut all other items out of white cardstock. For the middle panel, I used a trimmer and corner rounder.

To create the base, use the Christmas Backdrop with a “blue” appearance. Cover both sides of the paper in a whitewash using a gesso or Picket Fence and a credit card. The drying time was only a few minutes. Add a second and third layer to get the effect you desire. Score at 2.25″ and 3.5″. Apply the grit paste through the stencils on the outer surface of your card. Allow drying for about an hour.

Using the snowflake stamps, emboss using the “sprinkle” technique, combining white and holographic embossing powder. While you have the embossing powder out, emboss the tree trunks in holographic embossing powder.

Cut your patterned paper down to fit your panels and adhere. Cut your pocket in the paid and then apply a whitewash. Accent the pocket folds with gold paint. Once dry, adhere to the center of the right inner panel. Stamp the tag in Distress Oxide Ink for the sentiment and the borders. Emboss the snowflakes in white and adhere.

For the middle panel, stamp your image in Archival ink and leave it in the platform; paint the tree in Speckled Egg, once dry, stamp the image a second time. Then apply Nuvo drops as your snow.

Assemble the remaining elements and adhere. Add a white eyelet to the left side of the card. Thread your ponytail holder or white elastic through the eyelet. Clip the closed card on the right and secure your card with elastic. Whew! You made it!

Have the Merriest of Holidays!!

Purrfect

Hello everyone! Merry December!

I have a different and fun project for you. I upcycled a Littlest-Pet-Shop figure. She was cleaned with alcohol and then painted with acrylic paints. I added a few sequins to her eyes. I love watching people upcycle dolls and have these figures on hand. Much easier and less time-consuming than the dolls. Enjoy!

As it is the beginning of December, there is a new challenge at the Colorful Options Challenge. Purrfect serves as my rainbow-inspired and color-of-the-month contribution.

Go visit the Colorful Options Challenge and check out the amazing creations from the talented Design Team. You have until Wednesday, December the 28th 11:59pm US CST time…5:59am(Thursday, December 29th) UK time…6:59am(Thursday, December 29th) CET to join in with the chance to win a Stampingbella set with Rosie and Bernie.

May your Christmas tree survive its annual cat battle!
